Schematic shows the results of the innovative partnership between New Belgium Brewery and the City of Asheville, one project that was featured during the workshop.

 

Participants learned about the options local governments have to partner with the private sector and non-profits to finance and manage environmental infrastructure and programs. 

The workshop was sponsored by the UNC School of Government Environmental Finance Center and the Local Government Training Program in Political Science & Public Affairs at Western Carolina University.

Jeff Hughes, Director of the Environmental Finance Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, lead this program designed for staff and elected officials from local governments and for organizations that work with local governments on environmental issues.

  • Stormwater management, sustainable energy installations, solid waste management public private partnership examples
  • Legal options for structuring alliances and financing partnerships
  • Choosing the right team
  • Tips for overcoming barriers
