Presentation | Budgeting for Public Enterprise

On November 2nd, the UNC EFC’s Hope Thompson and Erin Riggs presented on “Budgeting for Public Enterprise” at the School of Government’s in-person course “Budgeting in Local Government.” In their presentation we gave an overview of public enterprise services (such as water, wastewater, and stormwater, but there can be others, too) and some of the statutes that govern them in NC. We also presented on revenues, expenses and transfers regarding public enterprises, giving examples of budgeting approaches and practices that support sustainable management of these enterprises. The presentation included some common challenges that local governments face in setting their public enterprise budgets, as well as Q&A with the audience to discuss their specific questions and concerns.
