The EFC provides the following integrated environmental finance services to communities across the United States.
APPLIED RESEARCH & ANALYSIS
The Environmental Finance Center serves as a nexus between academic, theoretical research and the day-to-day operations of the organizations making real-time decisions on environmental protection. The EFC bases its analysis in solid research methods and scholarship but works to make sure that the results are accessible and relevant.
Environmental outcomes typically depend on sustainable environmental finance systems that generate revenue in an equitable, accountable, transparent, and sustainable manner. The EFC helps organizations develop these systems.
The EFC is one of the Southeast’s largest providers of environmental finance education services. While our programs address many aspects of environmental management and attract participants from around the country, we focus our efforts on programs that link together energy, air, water, and land.
FINANCE & GOVERNANCE TOOLS
We produce practical tools, reference documents, practice-based guides, and model implementation documents (ordinances, contracts, etc.) designed to help communities analyze options and implement environmental finance and policies. These tools cover many subjects, from energy finance to water rates.
Every day, our North Carolina and Georgia EFC offices receive dozens of calls, e-mails, and meeting requests from local governments and state agencies seeking help with some type of environmental finance issue.
LOCAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND CAPACITY BUILDING
Over the years, we have provided a great deal of direct assistance to local communities in order to increase their capacity to address diverse environmental issues.
PUBLICATIONS & RESOURCES
Our outreach strategy has changed substantially since we first began disseminating best practices over twelve years ago. We still believe there is a role for static reference documents that relate finance and environmental protection, but we see a need to develop and disseminate dynamic resources, as well.
COLLABORATIVE PLANNING & PROBLEM SOLVING
The efficiency of environmental management depends on how different organizations share information and collaborate with one another. We provide structured opportunities for individuals and organizations involved in planning and financing environmental programs to work collaboratively.
