Stormwater management is a critical component of environmental protection and sustainable development in North Carolina. With increasing urbanization, changing weather patterns, and stricter environmental regulations, managing stormwater effectively is more important than ever for protecting water quality, preventing flooding, and safeguarding natural ecosystems. To address these concerns, stormwater projects across the state are taking strategic steps to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience.

Since 2020, the UNC Environmental Finance Center has produced case studies, dashboards, one-page guides, and other resources to assist local governments across North Carolina. This section of work was generously supported by funding from the Division of Water Infrastructure at the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.
