Melanie Sanchez is a Project Director at the UNC Environmental Finance Center (UNC EFC). In this role, she helps manage multiple projects, including Pollution Prevention, Lumber River Council of Government (LRCOG), and Community work (BIL), but predominately works on Water and wastewater dashboards. Once a state reaches out for an annual dashboard, she leads in training students as well as collecting and inputting financial data and water & wastewater rates into the back of the dashboard. She helps maintain the integrity of data for the utilities in each state by conducting QAQC, conducting webinars, writing reports, and pushing updates to the dashboard.

Melanie believes water and wastewater are essential services and loves helping to connect communities to these services. Before working at the UNC EFC, Melanie was employed at Gallagher Re, where she was a Reinsurance Analyst, acting as the intermediary between insurance companies and reinsurers. This experience was a crucial part of her journey, shaping her understanding and passion for data, collaboration and emphasizing her desire to work to assist underserved communities. Prior to working at Gallagher Re, she worked as a data analyst at the UNC EFC in undergrad, where she assisted dashboard work.
