Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Finance Strategy Workshop (Eastern NC)

Description:

The Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Finance Strategies Workshop will review finance topics for water and wastewater operators including: rate setting and pricing water for full cost recovery; benchmarking and tracking your utility’s financial performance through financial metrics; and an introduction to financial management tools available through the UNC Environmental Finance Center (UNC EFC) website.

The course will also feature a session with Dr. Kara Millonzi of the UNC School of Government about trends and updates in legal issues affecting utility financial management, as well as a session with representatives of the N.C. Department of Water Infrastructure on funding and program opportunities.

Day 1 will focus on water and wastewater finance and Day 2 on stormwater finance.

Date & Time: August 22-23, 2023 (attend one or both days)

  • Day 1 (August 22nd 9am-3:45pm)*: Water and Wastewater Finance [5 CEUs]
  • Day 2 (August 23nd 9am-4pm)*: Stormwater Finance

*Includes 1 hour lunch and two, 15-minute breaks each day.

Location: Lumber River Council of Governments, 30 CJ Walker Road, Pembroke, NC 28372

Cost: Course is free to attend. (No lunch will be provided, but time is allotted to purchase lunch locally.)

Attendees: Local government staff, local elected officials, utility staff, and consultants

Credit hours are offered as follows*:

  • Water operators, by the Water Treatment Facility Operators Certification Board
  • Wastewater operators, by the Water Pollution Control System Operators Certification Commission, and
  • Professional Engineers

*Subject to approval.

Participants can also receive 5 hours of credit from the Water Treatment Facility Operators Certification Board and Water Pollution Control System Operators Certification Commission.

Individuals seeking PDH credit should submit the agenda and their license # to NC BELS. Water Treatment Operators and Water Pollution Control Operators should sign a course attendance roster at the conclusion of the course.
